The college has an unit of National Service Scheme sponsored by Anna University with a total sanctioned strength of 200 volunteers. Participation in NSS is mandatory for the first and second year students. The NSS volunteers are required to involve in Social Service activities, camps and special campaign activities. An orientation course is conducted for the volunteers. Students who work as volunteers for two years will be awarded a certificate issued by the University. NSS actitvites aim at instilling discipline, promoting culture, forming character building and developing personality through community services.
The Youth Red Cross a constituent of Indian Red Cross (IRC) is contitued in our college. Various activities related to social concern, health awareness and Emergency help are carried out under this programme, by our students.
Students of CIT donated blood for community supply and as an act of charity every year in association with Lion’s Club and Various blood banks. More than 800 students donated blood this year. Blood is the living fluid that all life is based on. Blood is composed of 60% liquid part and 40% solid part. The liquid part called Plasma, made up of 90% water and 10% nutrients, hormones, etc. is easily replenished by food, medicines, etc. But the solid part that contains RBC (red blood cells), WBC (white blood cells) and Platelets take valuable time to be replaced if lost. The time taken by a patient’s body to replace it could cost his/her life. Sometimes the body might not be in a condition to replace it at all.
Green kalam is initiative increases awareness about our dependence on tree for survival which paves a way to every common people to understand the importants of a tree which dedicates every part of its life to every living being. The green kalam initiative as been started by our china kalaivanar padmashri Vivekh with words from our former president Dr.A.P.J.Abdul kalam,Which showed the lights to him.
Green Kalam , a mega environment friendly initiative where in a mega 10,000 sapling being planted in and around Chennai Institute of Technology, Sarathy Nagar, Kundrathur, was launched by Actor Vivek.
In addition to this project frequent planting of tress is done in and around the college.
Frequent medical checkup is done for people in around our college once in every year. Nearly ten villages and around 600 people are treated under this camp. Medical check up includes free Health check up, Eye checking and Dental check up .
